Friday 20th January 2012 WE ALL AUTOMATICALLY ASSOCIATE REGGAE MUSIC AND IT'S SUB-GENRES WITH THE CARIBBEAN ISLAND OF JAMAICA. IT'S NOT OFTEN YOU HEAR ABOUT CARIBBEAN POP STARS FROM OUTSIDE JAMAICA. However, every so often, We are reminded that the Caribbean as a whole is a great Contributor to popular music and has given us many super star outside of Jamaica, Rihanna from Barbados, Kevin Lyttle from Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Wyclef Jean from Haiti and Daddy Yankee from Puerto Rico just to name a few.
Today, from the birthplace of Soca music comes yet another musician marked for superstardom, he is known simply as Jumpdred.
Born Toffa Samuel on the Caribbean Island of Trinidad and Tobago, Jumpdred has had the oppotunity to travel the world because of music, from singing and playing Calypso, Reggae and Soca music on American Cruise Liners, to moving to Australia to produce and record with independent music label TOO MUCH VARIETY RECORDS (TMV).
Jumpdred produced and wrote for the label's rostered artists -Chase Baker, Kid Mac, Tessa Cattanach, Chilli Viv, Chico and others. He became a core part of TMV's production team, together with Michael Costa and Jamaka. He wrote and created music in the genres of Hip Hop, R&B and Pop.
In 2010 Jumpdred decided he wanted to write and record his own album as an artist himself. For this album, the self taught musician went back to his caribbean roots for inspiration, the album is comprised of Reggae, Dancehall & Soca music but seriously flirts with his other love, Hip Hop and R&B. The album is due for release in late 2011.
